The 4 Noble Truths
Basics of the Buddha’s Teachings
1. Dukkha
= Suffering – Dissatisfaction
In the conditioned world, everything is impermanent.
Everything that is born will die one day.
Everything that appears will one day disappear.
2. The causes of Dukkha
We want what we don’t have.
We are dissatisfied with what we have.
We regret things from the past.
We expect things to come.
We want the present to be different.
We always need to improve.
We are never good enough.
We attach ourselves to things that will escape us.
We become attached to people who won’t always be there.
3. The cessation of Dukkha
The way out
is to give up relying on fragile pillars,
give up pursuing a crazy race,
seek true refuge within oneself
and disidentify with an illusory image of a self.
4. How? Following the Eightfold Path:
